New Video Features Ex-Cops Smoking Weed

A new video released on 420 features three ex-cops smoking cannabis. If this format seems familiar to you, it’s because it comes from the same people who released the viral video titled, “Grandmas Smoking Weed for the First Time.”  This latest version allows us to observe as three ex-cops spark up for the first time in decades, in Washington state.

It’s a compelling video, that may leave viewers with mixed feelings. On one hand, it’s a stark example of the changing times we live in. It also speaks volumes of the positive effects legalization has had. The men in the video seem harmless, kind, and with no context, could be any other stoner.

But they are not any other stoner, they are men who spent many years of their lives as police officers. When asked if they’ve ever arrested anyone for cannabis, one officer says he never arrested anyone, just confiscated a lot of weed. As for the other two? Their silence remains eerily omnipresent in my mind as the film continues. I can’t help but wonder — if they have arrested people for cannabis, what must those same people think and feel when watching this video now?

Hopefully, the men in this video are members of LEAP and will actively advocate for sensible drug policy across the nation.

For those who still live in prohibition states, the video may even feel surreal to watch. Here are three men who lived a large portion of their lives as law enforcement officers, now smoking freely in a legalized state, while far too many across the nation continue to be arrested every single day for the same exact activity. While the tide has turned for many in this country, countless still suffer at the hands of the destructive war on drugs.

Still, it is satisfying to see the three ex-cops gratuitously smoke up and proceed to discover the pleasantries of being stoned. One of the men remarks, “This is actually pretty comfortable though, you know it’s relaxed and I don’t feel like I have to be in control, it’s, it’s pretty cool,” ending in laughter.
