My Favorite Strains: Blackberry Kush, Source: Original Photo for www.Weedist.com by Phe HarphaWhen people ask me what my two favorite qualities are in my strains of choice, I always respond, Purps and Kush.” I also note that I am a big fan of indica dominant strains and heavy handed indica hybrids. Because of this, I name Blackberry Kush one of my favorite strains — ever.

Blackberry Kush comes from, of course, an Afghani Kush (or an Afghani landrace strain) and Blackberry, both of which are heavy in indica qualities, leaving BBK (Blackberry Kush) to be an indica dominant hybrid as well. I call it a hybrid because the genetics of Blackberry strains have become muddled so most say she is a hybrid too.

From the first time I laid eyes on this strain and got a smell of her fragrances, I was in love. She’s known to be a deep purple flower if the growing conditions and phenotype are right (or majorly green in color with purple highlights), and matures into a deep blackberry smelling flower that always makes my mouth water. Have you ever added blackberries or other fruit to your water or choice beverages? The taste of this strain reminds me exactly of that, blackberry water with the spiciness of good bubble hash.

In contrast to those deep purples were burnt orange hairs popping out in clumps and masses from the dense calyxes. The trichome coverage was average for this strain and decent, leaving a nice sugar coating for the eyes to enjoy.

Her smell was exactly as I expected it to be, a sweet and rich berry goodness matched with the earthiness from the Afghani Kush. Her taste followed suit nicely — berries and hash. But my selling point for this strain again and again, is that she actually tastes like blackberries straight from the bramble.

The high I get from Blackberry Kush is like most other similar strains to her and very “Kush-y in nature. Her effects are hard hitting and long lasting, which I look for in a good cannabis strain for continued use throughout the day. And with BBK, I find her potent indica effects best help sort out the muscular and nerve pains I experience, as well as help me get a good night’s rest after a nice smoke session before bed. I know many who enjoy BBK for their insomnia and anxiety as well.

Comprehensively, I can still say Blackberry Kush is truly one of my favorite strains. She grows nicely, is very attractive and smokes well, what more can a weedist ask for?
